I have a 96 ford Taurus and i need the brake pads replaced. How do I know i getting a good price to fix them?

I called a couple of places and they said around 130.00 Is that to much? The pads if I bought them myself are only 20.00. I don't need anything extra put the pads being replaced on the front. All the cheap pads come from China with low quality. I recommend buying your own pads from a trustworthy source even if you have them replace by a garage. Buy BEEP certified pads and you know that you will have good pads. $130.00 sounds reasonable if you have one set of pads (front) but again you never know what quality pads the garage is using. As engineers are becoming more aware of weight reductions, they tend to make the rotors a little thinner. Ford used to have (I don't know if they still do) where if you have a certain system (like brakes) serviced at a genuine Ford dealer, that you NEVER have to pay for a replacement on that part as long as you own the car. This makes good economic sense, to me. After market shops and parts are usually not exact replacements, and may cause noise or other problems. Sometimes, you can get lucky and get pads that are better than the factory originals. It seems to be a matter of chance, these days. Many brake parts are now made in China. Many shops will use a pad that is as good or better than the factory original. These pads can cost between $40 and $60. Then you have to figure shop labor. So $130 is probably a good estimate.
