How do I solve problem installing brake pads in my 2000 dodge neon. ?

I can't get the calipers in place with the pads attached to calipers.I tried hammering it into pace but it don't budge. Do I slide in the bottom first then hammer in the top? It's a tight fit. You either forgot to compress the piston or pistons before you installed the pads, or else you got the wrong part from the parts house. Check the pistons first.
