Will someone in the know please explain what this is and how it differs , construction and constituents wise from standard Disc Brake Pads for automobiles . Is manufacturing process for these pads are very different from that of standard pads. Can anybody suggest a relevant US patent for more detail explanation. How Ceramic Brake Pads differ from ordinary Disc Pads ?Lets go by application.
First you have organic pads that are the least expensive and are very quiet but have a short life and fade under high heat application.
Second there is semi-metalic that is the middle of the road and is the most common used due to its ability to give longer life and less fade under hard braking.
Last is ceramic and this is for the person that drives fast and rides the brakes it is also for the person that hauls heavy loads and has to stop all of that weight. Further it is for the driver that drives in the mountains and has to be on the brakes a lot to maintain the correct speed. Ceramic brakes work best when heated up and have less fade.
With this in mind, I give my customers a quiz to see which brakes will serve there needs best and recommend according to what they tell me. In the final outcome, it is still up to the owner what he wants on his vehicle that will best serve his needs. How Ceramic Brake Pads differ from ordinary Disc Pads ?ceramic lasts longer and does not contain asbestosHow Ceramic Brake Pads differ from ordinary Disc Pads ?ceramic pads will squealHow Ceramic Brake Pads differ from ordinary Disc Pads ?Ceramics don't last longer. They are quieter and don't contain asbestos. And are better for freeway mileage. But someone that drives street traffic will wear them out fast. Because they take longer to heat up then Semi mats. And since you do more stopping on streets, they wear faster and aren't as effective as Semi mats. Semi mats(semi mettalics) last longer, heat up faster, but also can develop asbestos. (Sorry, forgot, they also are noisier than ceramics.) So this is why most manafactuers use semi mats. All of these car makers use the less expensive and more durable equipment. They want something that is cheap to produce, and last long or long enough. How Ceramic Brake Pads differ from ordinary Disc Pads ?Ceramic pads last longer than semi-metallic and organic compound brake pads. They create less brake dust that makes your wheels look like hell. They are superior in stopping power and are more resistant to brake fade when they get hot. That's why all the race cars use them.
Try this site if you have to have more : http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/tech/techHow Ceramic Brake Pads differ from ordinary Disc Pads ?That opinion will vary from tech to tech. I think that ceramic pads aren't necessary for everyday street driven automobiles. They do produce less brake dust. They tend to not brake as well until their heated up which in turns may cause noise when cold. Also they tend to wear out the rotors quicker due to the hard compounds their made of. Buy some Wagner Thermo Quiet pads, they perform well cold and hot, don't produce glaze on the rotors which causes high pitch squeaking under light brake application, and aren't very hard on the rotors and are reasonably priced. Good luck and hope this helps.
