How long until I need to change my brake pads?

For an average driver of a 2006 midsize car (Nissan Altima), how long until the brake pads should start to wear out?How long until I need to change my brake pads? This really depends on your driving habits if you drive with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake a lot quicker than if you you just drive with one foot for these two operations. the reason is even if you think you are not pressing the pedal if your foot is on it I garantee that the pedal has moved some wich will make the gap between your pads and rotors smaller causing more drag and wear on your pads. If you call normal driving new york city driving where you are constantly stopping and going probably around 30,000-35,000 miles. If you do alot of Highway driving and not much in town then usually from my experience (given that you take your time to slow down and do not start to stop at the last possible second on a regular basis) I would say anywhere from 40,000,-50,000 miles. If you are frequently traveling with a full load of people or luggage I would anticipate thes numbers to be less because the more weight you have in your vehicle the harder you have to press the pedal to get the vehicle to stop at the same rate as normal. This produces more heat and with more heat burns up the pad quicker. How long until I need to change my brake pads?If you have high performance brake pads they'll last 20k doing city driving, and 30k doing highway driving. These types of pads also generate a lot of brake dust but they stop very fast and very smooth.

Ceramics, almost last forever. Normal pads should last 30-50k depending on how you drive.

How long until I need to change my brake pads?25000 to 30000 miles but best to take off the wheels and look at how thick the pad lining is check it when you rotate your tires or ask the mechanic that does how your brakes look when he does you should rotate tires every 6000 miles also most brake pads have a small metal tab called a squealer its there to make a squeaking noise before the pads totaly wore out so dont ignore any squealing sonds coning from your wheelsHow long until I need to change my brake pads?check them every year. i check them in fall right before winter or spring right before summer depending on how much time i have. normally they should last about 2 years under normal driving conditions but, driving style %26amp; conditions play a role as well. if you are not mechenically inclined most car x's %26amp; nationally recognized shops will check your brakes for free. your brakes are very important thats why i have them checked every year. you never know when you have cracks in your brake line, accumulation of brake dust, leaking master cylinders or calipers, warped rotors, uneven wear etc... all that could lead to brake failure %26amp; is unpredictable when these items may happen. just because you have a never car does not make your car invincible to road hazzards.

this is great preventative mantaince that may prevent a potential situation.

thanks,

ss
