How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?

Toyota Camry 2001

Brakes have been squeeling a lot recently.. time to replace the pads I guess.

Any suggestions on what to do?How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?There's a wide range of pricing for a standard front brake job - anywhere from $100 on up. It DOES pay to shop around. Don't be afraid to ask up front what the fee will be. Many places like Midas, Goodyear, Pep Boys, etc, have the price's pre-set at a competitive rate. That being said, my next question would be %26quot; Do you actually NEED brakes?%26quot; Most brake pad linings made today are semi-metallic, and are prone to squeal - especially when the temps start to rise. This does NOT necessarily indicate a brake problem; and could, instead, be normal. Also, many times, the rear brakes are the culprit and only need cleaning ----- this is especially true if the are drum type brakes. I would recommend taking your vehicle to a mechanic you trust, and get them inspected. Most respectable mechanics will either do this for free, or for a relatively small fee. Then, you'll know for sure what's actually needed. How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?It should not cost more than $70 at top end. Find a liscensed mechanic who won't charge more than that. DO NOT go to an unliscensed mechanic! you WILL get screwed!!How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?about 30.00 and go to advance auto or auto zone. How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?They are usually pretty cheap, I do my own (I am a woman, and I do it myself) Depending on the model, the pads themselves are pretty cheap, and if you go to auto zone and get their lifetime brake pads, you will never have to pay for brake pads again, the original ppads I bought cost me less than $20.00! Good luck!!How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?As a mechanic I can honestly say that you need to trust the person you take it to. So ask around and find someone with a good reputation. In this business reputaion is far more valuable than all the advertising in the world. As for cost it depends on the vehicle as well as the work it needs ie: pads, shoes, rotors, drums, hardware kits and labor involvedHow much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?Pretty much all shops to brake jobs. it's fast, easy money and turnaround.

pads for that car if you buy them yourself should be less than $35. a shop will double this amount. It should take 1 hour for the entire job, including turning of rotors.

You can goto a place like Midas, where they will warrant the job forever, and ever, but they will charge you premium for it. but you get your money back down the road.

the dealership will hit you up for $400. I am NOT exaggerating.

average shop would probably be like $65 + pads, probably another $10 for chemicals.

You could buy a chilton's or haynes book and with a few basic handtools, you can do it yourself for the price of pads, a can of brakeclean and the book. getting the rotors turned is like $20 each. Nowadays it's almost cheaper to buy new rotors for just a few dollars more. If your rotors aren't scarred up, or have dis-coloration spots in them and aren't heavily grooved, you can getaway with not turning them. make sure if you do this, the pads you use have a shim plate on the back. How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?you basically have 3 options

1. Go to the dealership-best for genuine manufacturer parts-most expensive

2. Go to a major auto shop Meineke, Midas, etc Professional uses OEM replacement parts(parts may not be made by manufacturer, but are identical to factory specs.-good quality work- slightly less than dealership

3. go to private auto repair shop, IE. Joe's auto repair.- ???? quality of work- no guarantee on parts quality- lowest price option

brakes for your car would run from about 20$ to 100$ depending on quality per set front and rear, hopefully there is no damage to rotors which can run you between 30 and 150$ per rotor(4 total) and labor will probably run you about 100$ to 200$, I'm so glad I know how to do it myself and got a %26quot;hook-up%26quot; at the dealer to get my parts at discount

Leigh your a woman who does her own brakes I THINK I'M IN LOVEHow much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?Depending on your vehicle pads can be between 15 and 75 dollars to purchase ( labor not included ). If you have a friend that feels confident enough to replace them for you it is a much cheaper way to go. If you are going to a shop to have them replaced make sure you go ta a decent shop. I recently had to have my brakes replaced after only about a year. The problem is the cheap shop I went to used the cheapest pads available. This is definitely a case where you get what you pay for.How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?probably $80 fix? unless that sqeeking is your rotars, in which case it will cost you about $100 per wheel for the rotars, plus the brake pads, if you don't know what your doing, take it to a shop and ask, brakes are kind of important, and i wouldnt trust that to a forum of people who havent seen your car.How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?First have your braking system inspected by a qualifed professional.

You are asking a difficult question; one that may not be possible to be answered on an online forum.

How to replace and what tools do i need to replace the rear brake pads on a mazda protege 1994?

I have a maza protege 1994 and i just cant find the tools to change it and if im changing them the right way... I need to change them now since they are messing up my rotors thank u very muchHow to replace and what tools do i need to replace the rear brake pads on a mazda protege 1994?Dee,

I am pretty sure that those are drum brakes, which means that unless you want to struggle and curse alot you will need to get a drum brake tool, it will allow you to remove the pad springs much more easily than trying to use a screwdriver and vice grips. You need to remove the drum itself after pulling off the wheel, then pay very close attention to how everything is put together before starting. The pads are held on with hooks over posts and there is a lot of spring tension. Honestly unless you are willing to bust your knuckles and face the possibility of getting them off and not being able to get them back on, you should take the car to a brake shop or find a friend that has the tools and experience to do it for you, they are a pain in the ***.How to replace and what tools do i need to replace the rear brake pads on a mazda protege 1994?If you've never done drum brakes, recruit a knowledgable friend to help you through the first time. The tension springs are pretty tight and you'll have a fight muscling them back on. And that's after you search for them in the grass after they shoot off when you take them loose.

  • Average price to have brake pads replaced at a garage for a 1994 Toyota Camry?

Anyone have an estimate for replacing 4 brakes pads for a 1994 Toyota Camry? I'm under the impression it's a pretty cheap replacement? Also I'd like to know how much brake pads have to be worn before you think about replacing them. Thanks.Average price to have brake pads replaced at a garage for a 1994 Toyota Camry?Wow a hundred bucks.

Now if you are doing it yourself i will agree with 100 bucks.

If a garage is doing it then look at around 400.

You should start looking when you have about 3/16%26quot; of pad left. this will give you time and by then you have put 40K the pads, which is a good round mileage for an auto transmission car. the rear brakes can go 60 to 70K without a problem. If you feel shuddering in the wheel or when you apply brakes, This is another sign of time for brakesAverage price to have brake pads replaced at a garage for a 1994 Toyota Camry?$ 70.00 to $100.00 pair

How do I replace the front brake pads on a 1984 cadillac deville?

So far I have lifted the car, taken the tire off, taken those two long bolts out, put that little clip from the old pad on to the new pad and put both pads in the thing that holds them. But it seems that the two pads are too thick to fit over the rotor. Is there some kind of trick to getting it back on the rotor? How do I replace the front brake pads on a 1984 cadillac deville?Alibi above is right, except you don't need to open your reservoir. A c-clamp is perfect for the job, just insert one of your old pads and turn the clamp slowly till the piston is flush with the caliper again.

Good luckHow do I replace the front brake pads on a 1984 cadillac deville?did you push in the caliper piston? get help before you hurt yourself or somebody else. How do I replace the front brake pads on a 1984 cadillac deville?you need to compress your caliper pistons. get a big pair of pliers and press the piston back into the caliper. or put the old pads back on and put the caliper back on the car and put a screwdriver between the pad and rotor and pry it open then put the new pads on.How do I replace the front brake pads on a 1984 cadillac deville? You need a C clamp or a caliper piston compressor tool to push the piston back in. Be sure to open your fluid reservoir when you do this so the fluid you are pushing back into the system has somewhere to go.How do I replace the front brake pads on a 1984 cadillac deville?hi nick! what you have to do is make sure the piston is all the way back in and do you see the bushings that the bolts goes through? well take a hammer and pound them back in, then the caliper should go on the rotor. your,s is the same as my 88 oldsmobile and that,s what i have to do.

How do I change the front brake pads on a 2003 dodge ram 2500 2wd truck w a 5.7l engine?

looking for info on how to change the front (rear too !)brake pads on my 2003 dodge 2500 ram 2wd truck w 5.7L engine.

Also, my radio stopped working completely the fuses are fine how would i test the amp or replace it if necessary? How do I change the front brake pads on a 2003 dodge ram 2500 2wd truck w a 5.7l engine?Changing breaks is simple. Please read this in it entirety before trying.

First you need to assess if you have warped rotors. If while breaking the vehicle surges under the pressure of the standard breaking not hard breaking then you have a warped rotor. You have to either remove them and take them to a local shop and have them turned or replace them all together. If you have one warped rotor it is best to have them both turned as pinpointing which one is warped is next to impossible.

Buy a Break Piston Compressor from your local Automobile Shop. Provided a link on what it looks like. While you are there buy the pads. You will want to get the premium or ceramic pads as they will last longer.

Now be prepared to get dirty.

Let the vehicle set for one hour if you just came back from the shop to have the breaks cooled down properly.

Open the hood and loosen the cap for the break reservoir. Do not add more fluid at this time. While performing this break replacement break fluid may spill out so loosely wrapping a rag around the break reservoir will catch most of it. DO NOT REUSE THE FLUID YOU CATCH AND PUT BACK IN THE SYSTEM.

Jack up the vehicle and place a jack stand under the control arm. That is for safety in case the jack fails.

Remove the tire and set aside.

Locate the caliper with the break pads in place.

Open the box that has the new pads. Examine the pads to make sure that you purchased the correct pads by comparing them while they are still on the vehicle. Pads have a metal side and a rough material side to them. After verifying that everything looks the same remove the two bolts that are on the back of the caliper. They are not the large 15/16 bolts they are probably 10mm or 12mm bolts.

Once they are removed, remove the caliper by sliding it forward from the top to the front of the vehicle and lift up. You can set the caliper on top of the rotor while working. DO NOT REMOVE THE BREAK LINE AS DOING SO WILL REQUIRE YOU TO HAVE TO BLEED THE SYSTEM.

Remove the outer pad make note of how you take it out and how it was positioned in the caliper. You may need a screwdriver to help release the clips from the caliper. Do not bend them.

Now leaving the inner pad in place use the piston compression tool and push the piston further into its cylinder. Make sure that you place the tool in the center of the piston and apply Even pressure until it bottoms out. You will know that because you cannot turn it anymore. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

Open the box that contains the new pads. Locate the Inner pad and remove the inner pad from the caliper and replace it with the new one. Now put the outer pad in place. Return the caliper to its correct position back on the the rotor assembly and insert and replace the bolts. They should be torqued to 10 to 15 ft pounds no more. All vehicles are different so you may want to ask for the torque specifications on your model from the local repair shop.

Replace the tire and perform that same steps on the other side.

After you are finished make sure to tighten the cap for the Break reservoir and close the hood. Start the vehicle and slowly pump the breaks till they feel normal. Test drive it a short distance going slow. No more than 15 mph and test the breaks again. Works great.

Now go clean up you terrible. How do I change the front brake pads on a 2003 dodge ram 2500 2wd truck w a 5.7l engine? If you dont know how to change your own brakes and have to ask on here how to change them. I would take it to a shop you dont want to mess the brakes up or anything in general in your motor.

How long do i have left to change my brake pads?

im stuck in new york right now, and need to get to ohio. my brakes make a horrible grinding sound when i brake, but its only been doing it about 5 days. i bought brake pads for 20 bucks, but it would take 60 to change them, which i just cant afford. i need all of my money for gas. i need to get down to kentucky which is 700 miles away. i wont be making to much stops though, not anymore than i would in town. would i be okay if i just went ahead and left? i have people that can do it for free once i get there. How long do i have left to change my brake pads?If you drive any further you will need to replace the rotors as well as the pads. A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE.How long do i have left to change my brake pads?If they are grinding then they are pretty bad. But if you have no money then I would drive slow and instead of using your brakes try slowing down by downshifting and then use the brakes as little as possible. Good luck!.How long do i have left to change my brake pads? No! you shouldn't drive it. It's too risky and someone or yourself can get hurt. By now your rotors are probably messed up. You should have someone %26quot;western union%26quot; you some money and then have it fixed. Let them know that you get paid tomorrow and you can pay them back with additional amount for their troubles helping you. If your rotors aren't messed up that bad yet. Then go drive by a garage and let them know your situation and see if they can assist you with replacing the brake pads while you do most of the work. It's not that hard (socket wrench, two bolts, clamp, brake quiet and pads,) but then again if your not familiar with cars or mechanically inclined then don't do it! Brakes should be done by a professional. Other than that the only other option is to see if you can leave it their over night someplace and find another means of transportation home with the money you have left (bus, taxi). Come back the next day with your funds and take it to a garage. Best of Luck! How long do i have left to change my brake pads?Yeah you should be ok if you use the gearbox to slow down and hardly touch the brakes.

If the disks are scored you can grind them by jacking up and running the engine but if they're not too bad new pads will quickly bed in

Your breaks are borderline and wearing out the disk but will get you one more journey dudeHow long do i have left to change my brake pads?OK, look at the maps again, try to plan your route on as many highways as possible, soft even braking were possible and you should be fine.

Good Luck! How long do i have left to change my brake pads?absolutely, go ahead and take off to Kentucky. Just remember when you have to get off the highway or slow down for a construction zone, or someone cuts off your lane in traffic, and you go to use the brakes, and the vehicle pulls hard (like pulls you into the ditch), or the pedal goes straight to the floor and you can't stop,.or you rear-end someone and hurt them or yourself, or you kill a construction worker--hey that's ok as long as your insurance for your vehicle is paid in full and you have enough coverage to not get sued to the gills and end up owing $20 million on a lawsuit---sure lets's get to kentucky. the small amount of money you spend(and mean that is cheap) to get this accomplished will be long, long forgotten if any of these or other mishaps should happen to you--think--don't chance your life or someone elsesHow long do i have left to change my brake pads?get a towtruck and have it towed to this guy. Chances are, if you try to take the highway with those brakes, someone's gonna get hurt or killed. If you have AAA plus you can ghave it towed for free. How long do i have left to change my brake pads? The factor here is not money its safety you should not drive this car knowing there is a brake defect as the owner of the vehicle you are legally responsible for the maintenance of the car. The car should be serviced at regular intervals which includes checking the brakes, the law will come down on you very hard in the case of the vehicle being involved in an accident and if there should be any fatality you will be looking at a jail term so a driver you must be responsible this is a loaded gun and can kill you or other innocent people you want that on your conscious.

Sounds like the rotors or brake discs as they are called in UK are already damaged which need not of happened if you had just fitted the new brake pads in time ! The car now has a serious brake deficiency and should NOT BE DRIVEN

Stay safe good luckHow long do i have left to change my brake pads?i wouldn't drive on those break...same thing happened to me and it cost me $800.00 to get my break back to normal because I waited too long..sorry =(

  • How long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?

I have about 25,000 miles on the car which was new when I got it and Nissan is telling me I need to change my brake pads. I think they should last at least twice this long. I do a lot of city driving, but it's not hard braking. There are no signs that they are wearing out either such as a squealing noise. I'm curious how long brake pads last for other 2007 Altima owners.

ThanksHow long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?Brakes should be replaced when they are worn. The mileage does not matter, it depends on ho much of the pad is left.

City driving, even if you use the brakes gently, wears the pads much more quickly than highway driving.

In city driving you are using the brakes often, due to traffic lights and stop signs. When driving on the highway, you can go many miles without touching the brakes at all.

If you do not believe the dealer, have the brakes checked by an independent shop. You may want to have the independent shop do the repairs, seeing as they will most likely be a lot cheaper than the dealer. How long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?you should call nissan and ask them they should know since they sold you the carHow long do brake pads last on Nissan Altima 2007?IT DEPENDS ON THE DRIVER

How urgent is replacing my brake pads at 15%? I have a 2002 Subaru Forrester. Where do you recommend I go?

My local Subaru dealer, upon doing my oil change (I'm at 72,000 miles) recommends 1,500 worth of repair including replacing the brake pads (I believe it), the power steering pump and the starter. I want a second opinion. I'm in Seattle/Lynnwood. Money is tight but I do want to be safe. How urgent is replacing my brake pads at 15%? I have a 2002 Subaru Forrester. Where do you recommend I go?If money is tight, this is what I would recommend. Front brake pad are fairly easy to replace. If your not comfortable doing something like this, maybe a friend or relative could help. New pads only cost around $40 and its a 30 min job. Or take it to a local garage that has a good reputation. The dealer is usually the most expensive. What did they say about the power steering pump, is it just leaking a little? Try some stop leak first if that's the case. In most cases the pump will make a lot of noise before it goes out. Have an independent garage check it out first.

The starter will not be a safety issue. If it goes out you won't be able to start you car. Also a good independent garage could put in a rebuilt starter and save you some money. How urgent is replacing my brake pads at 15%? I have a 2002 Subaru Forrester. Where do you recommend I go?Well, here, lets put it in a really easy to understand situation.

You like stopping your vehicle. It keeps you safe and alive.

Currently, your stopping ability, the ability that stops you from dying, or killing others, is down to only 15%.

Now, given that, do you really want to just put off the repairs? Is it urgent? I would think, for any logical person, that there's no question about it. Go get it fixed.

How do you know if you only need brake pads?

I need to get the brakes done on my car. I always feel like I get ripped off when I go to repair shops, so I was wondering, before I take it in there, is there a way for me to know if its just the pads I need or will I need new rotors and all that? I know for sure I need new brake pads, but there is no grinding noise yet or any squeaking. Help??How do you know if you only need brake pads? The only correct way to know if you need new rotors is to use a micrometer to measure the old rotors to see if they are within tolerance. This puts the average person at the mercy of the brake shop. However, I replace my own pads and visually inspect the rotors for wear and defects. If the rotors look good, no grooves and less than 75000 miles on them, I simply deglaze them with emery cloth. Replacing your own pads is easy if you are a little bit mechanically inclined. A repair manual will help. How do you know if you only need brake pads? You will not know unless you pull the wheels and do a visual on the rotors. It they are scored, then at least they need turned. Some shops can do this on the car, others have to take them off. Some times the rotors get to thin to turn, or are supplied at to close of a minimum thickness for turning. Even then it is a trade off of labor for parts as the labor costs for machining may exceed the cost of a replacement.

So tell them you want to see the rotors before replacement and stick with the car while it is in the shop.

I just do my own brake jobs, for the cost of labor I can buy new rotors and not have to worry about turning them. How do you know if you only need brake pads?Even if you don't need new rotors, it's best to have them machined on the car using an on the car brake lathe. Call your local independent shops and ask if they have an %26quot;on-the-car brake lathe%26quot; for machining brake rotors.

  • What are Mazda MX-6 OEM brake pads made from? How does it compare to Acura TSX pads? Got 80k miles from Mazda.

This is more curiosity than actual problem. The Mazda OEM pads were quiet and lasted forever (got 72k from the first set and seriously about 100k with the second set). It was a manual transmission and I am very efficient with brake use. I was just wondering how this would compare with the 2004 Acura TSX I just bought (automatic). Shop personnel who actually know only please. What are Mazda MX-6 OEM brake pads made from? How does it compare to Acura TSX pads? Got 80k miles from Mazda.i've seen my share of hondas and acuras that didn't have the first brake job done until after 100k miles. it depends how the car is driven mostly. the best thing you can do is buy oe pads because they are designed for your car.

Can replacing rear disc brake pads cause the e-brake shoes to chip and need to be replaced as well?

Hello. I brought my 2003 Ford Explorer in to the dealer for some warranty work and was told that they also noticed that my rear disc brake pads need to be replaced. I ok'd the work but got a call from them saying that during a road test they found that my e-brake shoes also needed to be replaced and that was what was causing a knocking noise when I drive (I had *not* been hearing any such noise). He said it was a common problem with this vehicle. I asked how much %26amp; was told $190. I said don't repair that because I had not even noticed any noise. Well, I picked the car up and now my car is making a very noticeable knocking noise at higher speeds. So, I'm wondering, did they screw something up when doing the pads and should they be responsible for this cost or is it possible that their work just unmasked an existing problem %26amp; I should pay for it? The serv rep acted really suspicous and I have a feeling that something is fishy. Thanks! Can replacing rear disc brake pads cause the e-brake shoes to chip and need to be replaced as well?Never heard of emergency brakes making knocking noise. Can replacing rear disc brake pads cause the e-brake shoes to chip and need to be replaced as well?when the dealer removed the rotor, and put the new one on they dammaged the ebrake shoes. its their fault but good luck on getting your money back. you should have it repaired, but dont take it to a dealer. take it to a ma and pa shop, they have to rely on their reputation versus the dealerships. dealerships only really get used for warranty work. Can replacing rear disc brake pads cause the e-brake shoes to chip and need to be replaced as well?usually the e-brake would just need adjusting I have never changed an e-brake pad or even heard of this being done it sounds kindof fishy to me they probably screwed something up on your truck take it back and tell them to fix it as it is probably something they didCan replacing rear disc brake pads cause the e-brake shoes to chip and need to be replaced as well?on your vehicle the %26quot;e-brake%26quot; or parking brake is not visable till you remove the rotor and it is very commond to have to replace parking brake shoes when replacing your rear brake pads, the shoes could have been worn and cracked and by removing the rotor parts of the shoe lining could have came off causing the noise you hear now, anyway they should be replaced before causing damage to the rotor and more expence to replace it also.$190.00 is kinda steep I am sure you could find a shop to do the repair for less at my shop it would cost around $100.00,a little less if done same time as brake job.Can replacing rear disc brake pads cause the e-brake shoes to chip and need to be replaced as well?Kinda odd that they did not notice it when they had things apart, they have to be torn down to where they should have seen that.

Unless they turn the rotors on the vehicle to save time and money. (very acceptable in the industry.) and did not see that.

and as to why it makes the sound now and why it should cost so much to fix it,

Why do you think so many people refer to them as stealerships.

Take it to any other shop and get an estamate.

If you do not use your E brake then you should not need to replace it very often if at all, they do not stop the car from moving they only keep it from starting to move.

I think dealers are crooks and I would never take a vehicle to them ever again. Can replacing rear disc brake pads cause the e-brake shoes to chip and need to be replaced as well?I agree with Brucejlm:

Unless you are a big customer of the dealer,, GOOD LUCK, they are not going to admit it was their fault.

I went though fight with a BMW dealer and they finally fixed something they had broken, but only because the broken parts were unrelated to the repair they were to do. Even then it took an enormous amount of my time and a subpoena to court to get them to do it. ( It wasn't really worth the effort)

Tell the dealer you will tell anyone who will listen about the way you were treated. Take them to small claims court, even if you lose they will still have spent more money sending their lawyer and a manager to court. You will only be out your filing fee. If you win they owe you your filing fee and the repair cost.

How to change the brake pads on a 1988 volvo 740 turbo?

Has anyone who is a do it your selfer tried to change the brake pads on their Volvo 740 DL turbo sedan? I think I can do it but looking for tips and checks and dos and don'ts.How to change the brake pads on a 1988 volvo 740 turbo?i worked on Volvos for 5 years going through college. the brakes are some of the easiest in the industry to change. very straight forward, no special tools required. you may need an extra large screwdriver or even a small crowbar to gently push (or squeeze) the caliper pistons back into the calipers so that the new (fatter) brake pads will fit. if i remember correctly, there are two pistons and pushing on one will sometimes push the other one out, so try pushing both at the same time or going back and forth from one to the other so they go back into the caliper evenly. if one gets pushed all the way out, then you are left with a mess of brake fluid on floor and the need to bleed the brakes after your done, which you can avoid. lastly, Volvo used two different kinds of brake assemblies. one made by Girling and the other name eludes me, but they are distinctly different and not interchangeable. i could tell them apart simply by sight, but you will probably want to bring in the old pad to the parts store to match them up with the new ones as there is NO WAY to tell which ones your car has without physically looking at them.

good luck. How to change the brake pads on a 1988 volvo 740 turbo? This is a very intrictate process. go to www.brickboard.com then go to 700/900 FAQ. That can help you more than we can. Plus it includes pictures.

How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?

    I have a 1999 Acura Integra.

I went to the shop and had the following done:

new brake fluid, changed air filter, front brake pads, rear brake pads, front rotors.

It was 185 parts+ 160 labor came out to be a total of $361.

Do you think it was a fair price? How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?THats fair for not doing it urself...If it was my car, it would of cost me 160, i do all that myself :)

But to do it yourself would require about 200 to 400 in tools and safety equipment. This pays for itself after a few years. How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?thats cheaper than dirt/in nj front pads are 125.cramic/discs are 60 ea and the rear pads are 115/plus fluid and 160 labor and 750 for air filterHow much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?Although the labor cost always kills ya, the cost of the parts you got sounds fair. Rotors can cost $50 each or more, pads are usually $20 or more and theres almost all of your cost and you still have the filter ($5) and fluid to account for. You could always go to www.autozone.com and put in your car make and model and then find the cost of the parts there. How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?Seems fair if the work is quality. Dirty job too.How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors? It all depends on what brands/quality parts he got you.

Assuming, he got you brand name parts at the lowest price (better than some cheap ebay brand at same price):

    Front rotor set around $80

    Brakes F and Rear: $100

Total 180 ish so thats a very good price.

For labor. Installing the front rotor and pads on each side takes about 30 minutes for total:

~1 hr on the front rotors/brake pads.

    ~45 minutes for rear pads

~20 minutes for bleeding and changing brake fluid.

    Total labor: about 2hr +

Verdict: Part fee was excellent. Labor fee was fair. You got good deal.

How do i change the front brake pads on a honda civic type r?

Does anyone have a link to a website explaining how to change the brake pads on a honda civic type r or would they be able to explain it?How do i change the front brake pads on a honda civic type r?Some people have great confidence in garages!

After a major service my car did 4 (FOUR) miles before a grinding noise occur ed due to there being NO LINING on the rear brakes. Another time they adjusted the rear brake clearance by tightening the handbrake cable. When loaded this pulled the brakes on - gently - and heated up the drums to the point where the grease in the bearing ran out into the drum ad ruined the race and the linings - no rear brakes!

Most main dealer garages rely on company car repairs and many of them cannot even blow up the tyres to the correct - or even the same - pressures. Believe me I have checked.

And so on and so on.

If you must use a garage go to a local - one man - one. He relies on doing a good job or his name gets round and he goes out of business.

Get a Haynes manual and have confidence.

How to change brake pads on my car?

I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am (6 cylinder). I want to change the brake pads. I bought the pads already. I just need to know what else I will need and maybe some pointers so I don't mess up. Thank you muchHow to change brake pads on my car?Go to the autozone.com website, register, enter your vehicle info in the profile, and click %26quot;repair info%26quot; then %26quot;view repair guide%26quot;. Click %26quot;brakes%26quot; then %26quot;front(?) disc brakes%26quot;. There you will find links to sections on calipers, pads, and rotors.

This will cover the basics, but is far from everything you really should know to do a brake job. For example, it doesn't mention that you should lubricate the sliding mechanism.

    http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/

It doesn't mention shims or anti-rattle clips. It doesn't tell you what tools you will need. It doesn't tell you that the rotor should be either re-surfaced or replaced, or that the rotor will probably be too thin after going through one set of pads to be legally resurfaced because they are very thin to start with.

Worst of all, it doesn't tell you that you should replace the cover for the master cylinder before pumping the brakes, so that brake fluid (which eats paint) doesn't end up all over your drivers side fender. Well, OK, maybe that's not the worst that could happen, but it does kinda bite.

btw, if the setup they're using on Grand Ams is similar to what they're using on Grand Prix's of the same vintage, you won't need a TORX (star socket LOL) bit. It's a totally different design. TEVES calipers, not Delco-Moraine.

And you won't need to bleed the brakes. How a guy who thinks that gets a 32% rating is beyond me.How to change brake pads on my car?Don't allow any fluid out of, or air into, the brake lines, and do not attempt to change the fluid. If you mess it up, you'll lose control of the brakes and crash into something hard and heavy and you'll die, and your family won't even have anyone around to sue.

Does that go some way to explaining how extremely careful you should be with your brake lines?

That said, you can change the pads yourself, of course you can. Just don't 'bleed the brakes' like others have suggested, unless you're a fully licensed and fully qualified mechanic. And even then, better to have someone else to hold to account if something goes wrong. How to change brake pads on my car?Well if you insist on doing it yourself this is how. After you take the tire off there should be two bolts holding on the caliper which is what holds the brake pads. Take the two bolts off and then pull the caliper off the rotor which is the big metallic disc. It will be hard to pull off but it will come off. Then take the pads out and use a big c clamp to compress the piston on the caliper make sure to remove the reservoir cap on the brake fluid under the hood then put the new pads in. Then put the caliper back on the rotor and bolt it down. Now you have to bleed the brake to get all of the air out of the line. There should be a small nipple looking bolt on the back of the caliper. You will need some one else to help. Someone needs to get in the car and pump the brakes and hold them to the floor while there doing that someone else needs to loosen that nipple and let the fluid come out and then tighten it back up before the person lets there foot off the brake. Do that three or four times and make sure there is plenty of brake fluid in the reservoir. How to change brake pads on my car?well let,s see ! you will need a c-clamp to push the caliper piston back in and either a allen wrench or a star socket, probably it takes a star. ok jack up the car, put jack stands under it for safety, take off the wheel, run a couple of nuts on the rotor to keep it straight, take a 3/8 drive ratchet and the star socket or allen head and take the caliper bolts out but leave the caliper on the rotor for right now. now take your c-clamp and run the piston back in all the way, take the c-clamp off and remove the caliper. change the pads, clean off the slides where the caliper bolts to and smear a small amount of high temperature grease on the slides, put the caliper back on, tighten the bolts, take the 2 nuts off the rotor, put the tire back on and tighten the lug nuts. now do the same on the other side. you won,t need to bleed the brakes because you don,t have to loosen any hoses or lines. putting pads on won,t put air in the lines. How to change brake pads on my car?there is a lot of videos about replacing brakepads on youtube. it wasn't really hard if you pay attention from those videos. First you should have all the tools you might need. Floorjack, jackstand, c-clamp probably to push the piston in. 17%26quot; socket to remove two bolts (they are kinda tight) that holds caliper and brake cleaner. GoodluckHow to change brake pads on my car? You'll need a Torx bit and ratchet to loosen the caliper. You will need a large C-clamp (6-8 inch) to compress the piston in the brake caliper. How to change brake pads on my car?If it's your first time, you'll need to have someone who's done

this properly to help guide you. There's too much riding on your brakes to just dive in...

  • How can I tell if I need new brake pads on a 1991 Chevy Beretta?

Okay just about a month ago, I went to Sears and got a brake inspection by one of their brake specialist mechanics. He put my car in the air, I was looking at the bottom of it he checked every part of my brakes, showed me everything. And he said all I needed was two rear wheel cylinders (calibers). The mechanic out them on for me and told me everything else (brake pads, tie rods, ball joints, drums, rotors, etc.) was good and in good shape. So now two months later, I am wondering how can I tell if my brake pads are low, my brake pedal is going a little too far to the floor, but he showed me and my dad my brake pads and the leather on them were pretty thick. It's best to purchase a Haynes Repair manual for your car. You can order them from any NAPA or Carquest automotive store. You may chose to go to a local library and sign out a Motors, Haynes or Chiltons big book and soak in detailed information and pictures or your particular braking system. Toyota's have outstanding brake pads that should last 60,000 + miles. It's important to replace the brake pad shim kits also.

I personally recommend using an endless chain. They cost a bit more, sometimes double the cost of a master linked chain. However, endless chains last almost double the miles and take much more abuse.

Master-linked chains have the weakest point at the master-link. Every master-linked chain I had failed at the master-link. After happening twice to me, I always bought an endless chain after that.

Installing an endless chain is also easier. Just put the bike on its center-stand and disconnect the swing-arm. Feed in the chain and reconnect the swing-arm. It's a piece of cake.

Oh yeah, always replace sprockets with a new chain, especially the rear sprocket. The front sprocket can go longer, maybe every two chain replacements. Front sprockets can be a real beach to remove, but that's another question.

  • How much are new brake pads or routers?

I have a nissan altima and it has over 100,000 miles on it, i think i got new brake pads 3 years ago. Recently my brakes have been making a squeaking noise when i hit it...i know thats not a good sign. I'm wondering if it already went down to the routers (mispelling) if so how much do they cost? How much are new brake pads or routers?THE NOISE YOU ARE HEARING IS A SMALL METAL STREEP OF STEEL, PUT THERE BY THE MANU. TO TELL YOU, THAT THE PADS ARE GETTING TOO WORN, AND IT IS TIME FOR A NEW SET. IF THE ROTORS ARE NOT GIVING YOU A PULSATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL, THEN THE ROTORS ARE FINE. PADS PER WHEEL IS ABOUT25.00, ROTORS ARE 75.00. SOUND LIKE YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH JUST THE PADS.How much are new brake pads or routers? If you have a screech when you put on you brakes that means your brakes needs to be replaced. when you buy new brake pads they have a metal part on them and before it gets down to the rotter that screech will or should tell you it needs attention to the brake system If you had the brakes for 3 years now I do not think I would put them on my car, so do your self and your car a favor and buy new ones..

As far as the brakes in the rotters, that is according to how much you have driven it after the noise started and if you need new rooters ? Try Auto Zone or Pep Boys or Advanced Automotive they will be cheaper..

I would almost bet you are still driving this car.!!! b.Jerry30How much are new brake pads or routers?Call some different shops, prices vary for brake jobs.. If you need 2 rotors, add $100+. I was told that I have 3cm left on my brake pads?

I drive a Toyota SR5. My brakes were checked recently. I was told that I have 3cm left on my brake pads. I do mostly Freeway driving. I almost never have to brake hard.

How much time do I have before I need to change my brakes?

I don't hear squeaking or metal rubbing and the brakes don't feel spongy.I was told that I have 3cm left on my brake pads?3 cm is over an inch of pad. most cars do NOT come that thick when new.

I think you mean 3 mm (or about 0.12 inches). It is pretty much gone. As to how many miles / time, that really depends on your driving habbit (L.A. driver would need braking more often than say somebody from country side)...

Be safe and go get it replace.

Good Luck...I was told that I have 3cm left on my brake pads?3cm or 3mm? 3cm seems awefuly thick for a brake pad. If it has 3mm you are probably ok for awhile but invest in getting them replaced at some point in the future. Brakes usually squeal because they are designed with a tiny piece of metal that when the pads are getting low, they rub on the rotor. Doesn't cause any damage but let's you know your going to need to change them in the next 2 months or so.I was told that I have 3cm left on my brake pads?3mm wow that is not much. You should have heard the tattler rubbing on the brake disk (or you will soon) that tells you that your brakes are worn out. Replace these pads as soon as possible.

If you let them go much longer you may metal to metal contact when you apply the brakes and when that happens you just start adding expense.I was told that I have 3cm left on my brake pads?3mm is far too less Change pads ASAP.

  • My 1995 MBz has squeeling brakes every time I start up from cold. How can I tell if the brake pads are OEM or?

aftermarket type? It may take several stops to warm up the brake pads enough to stop the squeeling. And this is in Southern Calif. which is a very temporate climate. I estimate that I have at least another 35,000 miles of braking before these pads will be worn out and need changing. My 1995 MBz has squeeling brakes every time I start up from cold. How can I tell if the brake pads are OEM or?OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer

A/M = After Market (made by someone other than the original manufacturer of the vehicle)

Even on new vehicles, the brake pads are usually A/M. A/M does not mean the quality is any less or they will not last as long, or be as safe as OEM. In fact, A/M is usually a much more cost effective alternative--a better value for the money.

When were your pads changed last? (About how many miles ago?) Depending on the type of driving you do, you may only get 25,000 miles out of a set of pads. (I had a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am that I had to put new pads on every 23k-25k miles because it was driven so much in stop %26amp; go traffic...) Now my 1999 VW Beetle is just coming due for new pads at 85k miles (but I bought it w/41k miles on it, and the brakes may have just been done.)

Unless the pads were just put on the vehicle, you most likely will not get another 35k miles from them, and you should really have them checked if they are making noise. You could have a pad that has become misaligned, or the little %26quot;pin%26quot; inside the pads that rubs to make noise when the brakes are wearing out could be rubbing, and you could truly need new pads now. (And if that is the case, the sooner you chg them the better--if you wait too long, you will notch/groove your rotors, and those can get expensive to replace or even just to turn them...) Also, if there is any warranty or guarantee on the pads, taking it to the shop sooner rather than later may get you free replacements if they are defective...

Also--did you have to hit the brakes extra hard %26amp;/or suddenly recently? That can dislodge or loosen a pad or cause it to become misaligned...

Good Luck!My 1995 MBz has squeeling brakes every time I start up from cold. How can I tell if the brake pads are OEM or?i own a repair shop, and on the original pads there is a little Mercedes stamp on them, its kind of small, but you have to remove them to find it,and even the original pads would squeak once in a while, usually this can be corrected by removing them, and rough them up real good with a piece of sand paper, and do the rotors also, this will stop it for a while but if the pads are polished on it real bad they will always do this until you change them, good luck i hope this helps. My 1995 MBz has squeeling brakes every time I start up from cold. How can I tell if the brake pads are OEM or?Just curious to see how long it will take to catch up to Doge Man
