My car is at Arnold Clark for its MOT and was told that it needs two front brake pads.

However, in Australia, an average price for brake pads is between $50 - $150 depending on the quality and the vehicle.
There is roughly an 30 mins labour to install, but once again, depending on the car. Most mechanics in Aus charge $80 per hour.
Its possible that the rotors also needed to be machined.
I would say that it is a fair price.
If the work was done at a VW dealership and they used VW genuine parts, that price is pretty much right.

Thank you so much for the information. To be honest I needed to know the price of the brake pads but could gather information. But through you article I could also know a lot about Brake Pads.
