How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?

Toyota Camry 2001

Brakes have been squeeling a lot recently.. time to replace the pads I guess.

Any suggestions on what to do?How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?There's a wide range of pricing for a standard front brake job - anywhere from $100 on up. It DOES pay to shop around. Don't be afraid to ask up front what the fee will be. Many places like Midas, Goodyear, Pep Boys, etc, have the price's pre-set at a competitive rate. That being said, my next question would be %26quot; Do you actually NEED brakes?%26quot; Most brake pad linings made today are semi-metallic, and are prone to squeal - especially when the temps start to rise. This does NOT necessarily indicate a brake problem; and could, instead, be normal. Also, many times, the rear brakes are the culprit and only need cleaning ----- this is especially true if the are drum type brakes. I would recommend taking your vehicle to a mechanic you trust, and get them inspected. Most respectable mechanics will either do this for free, or for a relatively small fee. Then, you'll know for sure what's actually needed. How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?It should not cost more than $70 at top end. Find a liscensed mechanic who won't charge more than that. DO NOT go to an unliscensed mechanic! you WILL get screwed!!How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?about 30.00 and go to advance auto or auto zone. How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?They are usually pretty cheap, I do my own (I am a woman, and I do it myself) Depending on the model, the pads themselves are pretty cheap, and if you go to auto zone and get their lifetime brake pads, you will never have to pay for brake pads again, the original ppads I bought cost me less than $20.00! Good luck!!How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?As a mechanic I can honestly say that you need to trust the person you take it to. So ask around and find someone with a good reputation. In this business reputaion is far more valuable than all the advertising in the world. As for cost it depends on the vehicle as well as the work it needs ie: pads, shoes, rotors, drums, hardware kits and labor involvedHow much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?Pretty much all shops to brake jobs. it's fast, easy money and turnaround.

pads for that car if you buy them yourself should be less than $35. a shop will double this amount. It should take 1 hour for the entire job, including turning of rotors.

You can goto a place like Midas, where they will warrant the job forever, and ever, but they will charge you premium for it. but you get your money back down the road.

the dealership will hit you up for $400. I am NOT exaggerating.

average shop would probably be like $65 + pads, probably another $10 for chemicals.

You could buy a chilton's or haynes book and with a few basic handtools, you can do it yourself for the price of pads, a can of brakeclean and the book. getting the rotors turned is like $20 each. Nowadays it's almost cheaper to buy new rotors for just a few dollars more. If your rotors aren't scarred up, or have dis-coloration spots in them and aren't heavily grooved, you can getaway with not turning them. make sure if you do this, the pads you use have a shim plate on the back. How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?you basically have 3 options

1. Go to the dealership-best for genuine manufacturer parts-most expensive

2. Go to a major auto shop Meineke, Midas, etc Professional uses OEM replacement parts(parts may not be made by manufacturer, but are identical to factory specs.-good quality work- slightly less than dealership

3. go to private auto repair shop, IE. Joe's auto repair.- ???? quality of work- no guarantee on parts quality- lowest price option

brakes for your car would run from about 20$ to 100$ depending on quality per set front and rear, hopefully there is no damage to rotors which can run you between 30 and 150$ per rotor(4 total) and labor will probably run you about 100$ to 200$, I'm so glad I know how to do it myself and got a %26quot;hook-up%26quot; at the dealer to get my parts at discount

Leigh your a woman who does her own brakes I THINK I'M IN LOVEHow much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?Depending on your vehicle pads can be between 15 and 75 dollars to purchase ( labor not included ). If you have a friend that feels confident enough to replace them for you it is a much cheaper way to go. If you are going to a shop to have them replaced make sure you go ta a decent shop. I recently had to have my brakes replaced after only about a year. The problem is the cheap shop I went to used the cheapest pads available. This is definitely a case where you get what you pay for.How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?probably $80 fix? unless that sqeeking is your rotars, in which case it will cost you about $100 per wheel for the rotars, plus the brake pads, if you don't know what your doing, take it to a shop and ask, brakes are kind of important, and i wouldnt trust that to a forum of people who havent seen your car.How much does it cost to get brake pads on a car replaced? And where should I go?First have your braking system inspected by a qualifed professional.
