How do you change front brake pads on a 1997 Buick LaSabre?

My brother-in-law is convinced he needs an allen wrench to change the front brake pads on his car. The allen wrench is supposedly needed to remove a bracket that is holding the calipers in place. He thinks the calepers need to be removed to change brake pads. I've never experienced this, but i guess it could be true. How do you change front brake pads on a 1997 Buick LaSabre? Most all General Motors cars, you would need to remove the calipers to change the pads. On many Japanese and European cars you don't have to. Most older GM calipers were held on by a pair of bolts with an %26quot;Allen%26quot; head, but most later models you will need a %26quot;Torx%26quot; bit.

The caliper bracket on these cars is an integral part of the steering knuckle, which cannot be removed, and removing the caliper will allow removal of the rotor. On some other cars the caliper bracket is removable, and would have to be removed to remove the rotor.
