Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions.

Good Luck! How do I replace Front Brake Pads on My 1993 Audi 100 CS Quattro?you need to take it to a professional, to replace the pads is one thing and to get them to work properly is another. you may have the front pads done yourself but in a couple of months time you may well have braking pulsation shaky steering wheel and vibrations all caused by inappropriate brake job, the mechanic will measure the thickness of the front discs if they are machinable he will advise to do so if not then pads and discs replacement will be the best option, I've seen allot through the years I know for sure if you want to cut costs GO PRO.How do I replace Front Brake Pads on My 1993 Audi 100 CS Quattro?Dude.... or, girl, if I was you I would get a proffessional... brake pads are tricky... and you gotta test the brakes after you install them. I had my mechanic change the brake pads and resurface the disk? on my car, I picked up the car?

from the shop yesterday and the brake light came on the dashboard, he did something and went off. Today I was on my way to work when the light came on again, what should i do, or how can i fix this?I had my mechanic change the brake pads and resurface the disk? on my car, I picked up the car?you reset it with a computer, take it back and make him fix it,free.

if your car has anti-lock brakes and he didn't open the bleeders on the calipers when he compressed them, that forced the fluid up to the ABS control and may have caused damage.

or just check the fluid level and tap on the side of the resevor, the float may be stuckI had my mechanic change the brake pads and resurface the disk? on my car, I picked up the car?what kind of car is it and if its a newer model there is a sensor on the brake caliper that needs to be reset through the computer of the car so take the car back to the mechanicI had my mechanic change the brake pads and resurface the disk? on my car, I picked up the car?take it back he didnt reset it right,I had my mechanic change the brake pads and resurface the disk? on my car, I picked up the car?bring the car back and have him clear the computer of the break fault ... you need to learn some about mechanics ... how many wheels did he do ... you should do a pair not one ....you do 2 or all 4 ... doing just one wheel will make the brakes stop un evenly ... you are talking about disk brakes ... a lot of cars have front discs and rear drum brakes .. they work and are repaired very differently ... Find out more about your car and the repairs will be easier and cheaper ... A mechanic who senses you know about cars will not try to rip you off selling you stuff you do not need ....

    unbolt the caliper.

pull off it off the disc - it will come.

rest the caliper on a support so it doesnt pull the brake pipe.

get a screw driver and hammer, tap the pads out from behind (they are accessable)

use a clamp (3 from focus/b%26amp;Q etc) to clamp the pistons in the caliper back so you can fit the new pads in AND get them back on the disc.

tap the new pads in (avoid tapping the actual brake pad part itself - use the edges.)

How much it cost (part & labor) to replace brake pads and rotors (front and back) on 1995 Acura Integra?

How much it cost on average? How much it cost (part %26amp; labor) to replace brake pads and rotors (front and back) on 1995 Acura Integra?Parts will vary greatly from one place to the other. Most brake jobs pay a book rate of 1hr on the front and 2hrs on the rear brakes. Depending on what the shops rate is, is how much you need to calculate for that. Some places like Firestone or Goodyear have set brake job rates... here is the catch with that... For 89.99 they will do the front axle, but then they are going to look at everything on your front axle and try to sale you everything you 'need'. So I suggest not to take it there if you dont know much about cars and there needs because they have a way of tlaking you into these things. Rotors front and back have different prices for type of rotor. They can vary from 29.99 all the way up to 99.99 for the nice expensive ones for racing and such. Bottom line I am trying to educate you on what to look for, no way to really give you a good estimate unless I can see what you have. You may be able to save some money and not get rotors. If they are still in spec. you can have them turned down to take any warpage, or flaw out. Then again You may run into some bearing problems and so on. no way to tell until looked at. hey good luck with your brakes....

By the way, If you brought it to my shop, it would most likely be around 350.00 to 400.00. Depending on what you wanted as in parts... That is for both front and rear @ 45.00 an hr. and the high side of parts....How much it cost (part %26amp; labor) to replace brake pads and rotors (front and back) on 1995 Acura Integra?I went into braketeam about a year and a half ago and i got my brakes done there for about $450 with new brake pads and they only resurfaced the rotors, but its always a good idea to give them a call first =D Do some shopping first. How much it cost (part %26amp; labor) to replace brake pads and rotors (front and back) on 1995 Acura Integra?depends on how good the parts and r u replacing or cutting discs? 125 to 175 per axelHow much it cost (part %26amp; labor) to replace brake pads and rotors (front and back) on 1995 Acura Integra?at retail my guess would be around$600 total

The car is a 1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 literHow much should I have to pay to get 2 front rotors replaced with front brake pads?depends on the quality and where you take it.

Quality parts at a decent shop will probably run about $350-500How much should I have to pay to get 2 front rotors replaced with front brake pads?It will be the cost of a brake job+the cost of the parts you want to use. Cost of the brakejob should be less than 1hour of shop time.

If you bring in your own parts you can save a ton of money.

    Lookup parts at say rockauto.com:

There are cheaper parts and more expensive parts, but the difference isn't that much. The expensive part will still be cheaper then what the shop will charge you for a worse part. I personally would get the premium parts so I don't have to have the job done again

    raysbestos premium rotors:

    2x$43

    pads:

    akebono proacts

    $60

    tax and shipping $20.

labor with tax and shop fees around $80.

This should put you into a total around the $250 range.

This is just an estimate, you definitely have the option to pick out cheaper rotors ($20-$30 each) or cheaper pads ($30) and save a little bit there.

The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?

Apparently I have 5% left, but they're not squeaking or grinding in any way- how soon should I be worried about making this change? The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home? You can do a brake job by yourself.

The process is pretty much the same for all vehciles. I've been refering people to this web site for Instructions on how to change brakes. Rob gives a good illustrations, and his web sit can be found here:

    http://www.********.com/lessons/brakesho

    Warning:

    1. I would definitely recommend jack stands under a car, never do a brake job with just the car jack.

    2. Always use a fixed size wrench, never use a cresent wrench as illustrated by Rob

    3. Otherwise his instructions are pretty well written and can be found here.

Oh and he's replacing brake pads, not shoes as he has incorrectly called them from time to time. Shoe are for drum brakes, pads are for disk brakes.

Also it is recommended to get the rotor's thickness measured (to ensure they are not too thin) and resurfaced for best braking.

These instructions are of course for front brakes. The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?It isn't very hard to do but if you don't have any mechanical experience, then, i would let the profesionals do it. rather be safe then sorryThe front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?Listen for a high-pitched squeal...that's the wear indicators. When you hear that, do 'em as soon as possible. If they get metal to metal, it's too late...you're looking a getting your rotors turned then. Shouldn't take but less than an hour to do 'em both. And use some anti-squeal stuff behind the pads when you install 'em.The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home? The answer to your first question is: (survey says), not at all. This is a fairly simple task. Tools required: wheel caulk, floor jack, jack stand, drive ratchet, 14mm socket, a disk brake tool or a C clamp, and a tire iron or cross. To get started on this job park the car so it is on a slight incline. Set the parking brake and place wheel caulk(s) behind rear tire(s). Before raising vehical loosen lug nuts on both tires. Next place floor jack in front of vehical and slide under to the cars crossmember. This is a central main beam that craddles engine and supports suspension. Find at best its center and raise. Once in the air you might find that even though your dead center when you raised it one side is higher than the other, don't worry it will always be like that. Place jack stands at jacking points for your car. If you don't know where they are you can find it in your owners manual or a repair manual or I could just tell you. Right before the wheel well of the front tires you should see a lip that putrudes a bit more than the rest of the under siding. Thats your jack point. Remove lug nuts and tire. Next with your ratchet and 14mm you will need to remove two(2) bolts from the brake caliper. On the otherside of the calpier at each end are the bolts. These will take a little convincing to loosen the bolts. Before the bolts are removed find something the caliper can perch on. Do Not let the caliper just hang there by the brake hose. Remove old pads, inspect rotor for grooves, thickness should still be ok unless you do a good amount of hard braking. Next remove the cap to the brake fluid reservoir. Try not to leave cap off for too long for brake fluid is gyroscope. Meaning it absorbes moisture from the air. You shouldn't need to add any brake fluid. Next with a brake caliper tool or C clamp push the piston, (that cylintrical piece) back in making sure the boot telescopes uniformly back as well. You should notice the fluid in the reservoir rise as well. Next insert new pads and slip caliper over the rotor. Bolt back on and repeat on other side. Once you are done there shouldn't be any extra parts, the pads don't count as extra because you started with 4 new ones and now you have 4 old ones. Tighten reservoir cap and wa-la, done.

The answer to your second question is that disk brakes have there own timely reminder system. When they start to squeak is when they should be changed, or if you feel a hard grinding when applying the brakes. If your wondering how do pads do that well the ones you took off look at them. You see a popsicle stick size of metal that comes from the back of the pad but ends up on the side just a little. Thats your indicator. When metal rubs agaisnt metal it creates a squeaking sound and it gets louder and louder until replaced. So until your breaks start squeaking is when you should change them. Join me next week folks as we look at rocket engines and there muliple uses at home. The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?As others have said, changing your brake pads is pretty easy, if you've got any mechanical inclination. But make sure you do it on time - brake pads are cheap, but if you try to eke out every last mile from the pads, you could wreck your brake rotors - and fixing them is a lot harder than just replacing the pads.

  • How much does it cost to change the brake pads in my car?

I have a Nissan Altima '97. I think it's just the front brakes that need replacing... How much should it cost at the garage to change if I don't buy my own? I'm a youngish girl and I'm aware they try to rip us off... ugh. :(How much does it cost to change the brake pads in my car?Buy the pads and have a friend do the work. The rotors will have to be turned or replaced. A garage would cost about $250, but that doesn't include replacing the rotors (in most cases). How much does it cost to change the brake pads in my car?Go the dealership and buy your own genuine pads and rotors. Many modern cars are designed to replace the rotors when the pads wear down anyway. They engineer things like this to save weight. You can do this job yourself with a few hand tools. Use ALLDATA data base found in many libraries, or a Haynes manual for your specific car brand. Keep the old rotors, have them inspected for proper thickness, and have them turned for the next time you need brakes. They probably are too thin, anyway. If they are re-usable, coat them in grease and sotre in wax paper. Don't forget that you need to have your brake fluid changed every 2-3 years. READ your owner's manual to understand why. Brake fluid wears out, just like oil and trans fluid. WHen it goes bad, the acids in it eat away at brake seals. Once again, use only GENUINE NISSAN brake fluid.. Mixing different brake fluids together can cause severe component issues. Good luck!!How much does it cost to change the brake pads in my car?The front brake pads should only cost 25$ or around there if you buy them from autozone and do it yourself. Honda front brake pads are easy to replace compared to many other types. If you have less than 50,000 miles on the car you should not be worrying about the front pads. Since you are we'll presume you drive a lot like I used to and the concern is valid. Don't let dealers try to get you to worry about such things so they can make a killing on a repair.

    1) If you don't know where to start I would suggest going to your local auto parts supply (not the dealer!) such as Kragen, Shucks, Murray, Checker, or Advanced Auto Parts Stores. These are all owned by %26quot;Parts America%26quot; and the names are related to the area you live in. See their web site at www.partsamerica.com for the nearest location to you.

    2) Get a Chilton's auto repair manual for your vehicle. It will provide you with the details on how to change your brake pads. It will also tell you how to inspect them (after you jack the car up take the wheel off)to see if they are in need of replacement.

    3) If you decide to do this on your own, you will need some simple tools. First suggestion I tell my friends is before you start to do anything to remove the caliper is to turn the wheel a few times. When the car is stopped the front brakes tend to stay close to the wheel. If you don't know the air that is generated when the car is moving creates an air cushion that keeps the brake pads away from the rotor. By turning the wheel first you will loosen this enough to make it easier to do the job.

    4) Second thing before you remove the caliper is to examine the disks. You will be able to see about 3/4 of the disk at a time because the caliper blocks your view. Because you turned the wheel before removing it you should be able to turn the disk grabbing the lug bolts that the wheel attached to. Please DO NOT touch the rotor with your hands. These need to be clean at all times. What you are looking for is to see if the rotors are worn and need replacing. Starting at the part closest to the hub follow the profile of the rotor surface to the outer most part. The surface should be smooth, have no discoloration, and with a 2003 vehicle there should be almost NO ridge at the outer edge (1/4 inch). I have a 2002 CR-V and there is no ridge on my rotors. My wifes '97 Accord has 84,000 miles on it and just a bit of a ridge; This is acceptable wear. (bye the way I didn't have to replace her brake pads until the car hit 70,000 miles.) If you see any significant ripples on the surfaces then you have spent too much time with your foot on the brake. If you have anything other than smooth rotors you should consider having someone qualified (with experience that is) work on it. Find a friend because %26quot;Turning the Rotors%26quot; requires knowledge and a machine shop is not a fun job nor anything to be taken lightly.

    5) Gather the tools (Wrenches will be METRIC) and follow the instructions in the book to remove the rotors. Remember they are fairly heavy as they are made of cast iron for durability. They will remain attached to the car via the brake hose. DO NOT attempt to remove them, this would make a big mess and add to the cost. I do recommend you have a box like a milk carton crate and a couple of smaller items available to stack up as necessary to rest the caliper upon.

    6) A large %26quot;C-Clamp%26quot; is always useful to push the %26quot;Puck%26quot; pack into the caliper. This must be done so that the thicker pads can fit between the caliper and the rotor. The C-Clamp will have to have an opening of at least 6 inches to be useful. Be careful not to place the c-clamp at an angle or you can jam the puck. I like to use a piece of 1/4 inch plywood across the entire puck surface and that way pressure is placed evenly around the puck as you gently tighten the clamp thus pressing the puck back into the caliper.

    6) Make sure you DO NOT touch the face of the new pads with dirty hands or they will have a tendency to squeak. The dirt and/or oil from your hands should be removed prior to installing the pads into the caliper.

Chilton's books will provide you with a list of tools usually required to do the job and the specifications for your car. The pads should run between $40 and $75 depending upon where you live. The book will become your best friend if you intend to do maintenance of this type in the future so look at it as an investment in long term savings.

  • How long do brake pads last

I have an 05 Chev Aveo with 50Km (30K miles) on it, and im just curious, how long till I have to replace the pads?

How long do brake pads lastyou should have them check once a year for a safety inspection. they should let you know how they are doing. when they get low enough then you will not pass safety inspection. breaks last longer for freeway driving then around town. less use per mile. therefor we can not tell you how far or how long that they will last sorry. How long do brake pads lastIt really depends on how u drive. More city driving = more braking. Highway drive = less braking.

Usually the brakes will sound off if its low. U can hear the high pitch sound in the morning or when its cold when u brake. After awhile it doesn't sound anymore as its hot. That's the indication that its time to change your pads.

Its hard to judge on how long it will last as it depends on how u drive and places(city or highway) u drive often. And stock brake pad or any brake pads have different wear off rates from any other manufacturer due to the compounds on the pads.

Cheerz How long do brake pads lastwell it all depends how much you drive. Brake pads usually have an %26quot;indicator%26quot; when there low. the indicator makes a constant %26quot;squealing%26quot; noise while driving. that tells you your pads are low and need to be changed. by the mileage on the vehicle and guessing your pads have never been change it appears they should be coming to an end pretty soon. How long do brake pads lastit all depends on how you drive and what material the brake pads are check your owners manual it should have a list of service intervals. How long do brake pads lastDepending on how you drive.....any day now

(I'm not sure of the technical name) It screws the pistons in instead of pushing them in. Make sure the pistons screw in freely and make sure the e-brake mechanism is functioning properly. These calipers are notorious for seizing and having e-brake problems, in turn causing accelerated wear. My honest opinion, if you must ask how to do it, you probably shouldn't be doing the brakes on your car. The 2 most important things on a car are tires and brakes. If you screw it up, you could end up killing poeple. Please seek professional help if there is any doubt as to what you doing. I know it cost more money, but safety is of the utmost importance. How do you replace the rear brake pads on a GM W-body car?they are diffrent from the front because the rear pistons are part of the emergency brake they have to be rotated back in to the caliper to make room for the new pads it takes a special tool, not like the front which are pushed in with a C clamp or caliper toolHow do you replace the rear brake pads on a GM W-body car?your best bet is to buy loaded calipers. They come with the pads. Because you will probably find the calipers are seized. and you will need to bleed the brake systemHow do you replace the rear brake pads on a GM W-body car?front ones are easier

Brake pads are not that hard to change, but instead of a website, you should go to an auto supply store and get the workshop manual for your car model/year range. If I go to a repair shop, for example Midas, how long does it take to replace brake pads and rotors?

I want to drop off my Chevy Trailblazer and I really don't want to wait days on end to get it fixed. If I go to a repair shop, for example Midas, how long does it take to replace brake pads and rotors? It depends upon the shop. For just pads and rotors, about an hour to an hour and a half. Rear brakes will be close to the same.

If you go to a place like Midas, they will possibly try to sell you a complete new brake system. That will take longer and of course cost more. They do that in order to offer a lifetime warranty. If I go to a repair shop, for example Midas, how long does it take to replace brake pads and rotors?Typical brake repairs will take about 1 to 1.5 hours per axle set (fr or rr). This should include turning the rotors, installing pads and bleeding the system. If you have other issues, such as calipers sticking or brake hose problems, this may take an hour or so longer.

Either way, the brake job should be able to be completed the same day, possibly while you wait.

Make sure you have the correct tool to remove the caliper studs and your pretty much set. Remove the fluid resevoir on the master cylinder. Raise the vehicle and use jack stands. Remove the wheel. Have a strong box ready to lay the caliper on. Remove the caliper bolts and lift off the caliper. Careful not to pull or twist the brake line. Remove the old pads. Use a vise clamp to press the pistons in slowly. Check for worn or leaking boots and seals and replace if neccessary. Install new brake shoes. Scuff the surface of the rotor with 100 grit sandpaper on both sides of the rotor. Reinstall the caliper. Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle. Pump the pedal to adjust the new pads. Repeat for the opposite side. How to change the front brake pads on a truck? You dont need a manual. All you have to do is break your lugs nuts loose, jack it up and take the tire off. That round thingy youll be looking at is called a rotor. On the back side of the rotor youll find 2 bolts 1 on top 1 on bottom. These usually take a 9/16 wrench. You will have to check on right size.Take out the two bolts on back side of rotor and lift caliper up and off.Thats the thingy that holds brake pads.Remove old pads.when you remove old pads youll see a cylinder in middle of caliper. You have to push that back in as far as it will go.I always use a c-clamp to force it back.Once youve down that put in new pads put back on rotor and put the 2 bolts back in,put tire back on,Youre done,That simple

Buy a book on your car(Haynes and Chilton both make good detailed books, i feel Haynes is for beginner mechanics and Chilton is for experienced) The book will explain step by step on how to change them. If you buys the pads from places like Auto zone sometimes they have %26quot;LIFETIME%26quot; guarantees! so when they wear down you take them back in and get them swapped for a new pair at no cost. The first few times you change your pads it'll take maybe 30 min. to an hour, but once you do it a few times, you'll be done in like 5 min. Good Luck.

Honda Accord V6 New Brake pads and rotors squealing sound?

I have got new Brake pads and Rotors on my 2000 Accord V6. Brake pads were done on one weekend and the rotors on the next weekend. Once the brake pads have been replaced, I have started to hear a squealing sound from my front left wheel when ever I hit the brake. It hasnt stopped after the new rotors went in and its the same. I called the guy and asked him why is the squealing sound coming. He said, everything is new and it takes around 10 days for the brakes and rotors to adjust and dont squeal. Is he BS ing me or being honest? I googled and it appears that he is partly true. How ever, I am not sure if thats the truth in my case or not. Any advice?Honda Accord V6 New Brake pads and rotors squealing sound? No. You are dealing with what results when you don't properly seat new brake pads. If you live near an area with country roads with little to no traffic, do this seating procedure.

Drive the car at 60 mph come to a complete stop. Drive 10 minutes at 60 mph and do it again.

Then driving the car to 60mph gradually hit the breaks to slow down to 35. Drive 3 minutes at 60 mph and do this again. Do this 4 times total. . Your burn in is complete. And your new brakes are seated.

Brake burn in, or break in, or run in or seating is basically heating up the brake pads so that the pads transfer material to the rotor. You do this gradually to prevent glazing which will result in the squealing you are hearing. The glazing would normally go away after about a week to 2 weeks as more brake pad material is transfered to the rotor, but the procedure I described will seat your brakes quicker.

Going thru the procedure as described will remove the glaze, and also seat the pads.

Good luck.Honda Accord V6 New Brake pads and rotors squealing sound?its true it might take even longer i had a squeak for months b4 it just went away, its not damaging anything so no worryHonda Accord V6 New Brake pads and rotors squealing sound?Sounds like the person that did your brakes and rotors did not have the rotors turned be be for he put them on. and you could use anti brake lubrication for the brake pads.Honda Accord V6 New Brake pads and rotors squealing sound?yes when you replaced the pads on cars, they have to get set to the rotors, but did he clean off the rotors after he replaced them(to get the grease off the rotors)or you could have gotten hard linings too.just drive it some and see if they will stop.

They shouldn't suddenly stop working, so don't worry about that! You will start to feel that they are becoming a little less responsive, or that they start to feel rough under braking. Also, if they are not wearing equally, you will feel the car pulling to the left or right - pulling to the right means that left is more worn. How will I know when my brake pads need changing ?Take your car to Quick-fit they will check it for you and tell you if it needs changing.:)How will I know when my brake pads need changing ?brake pads have a small arm built onto them for exactly this reason. when the pad wears down to the point it should be replaced, the tiny arm actually comes in contact with the rotor and makes a squealing noise. so, once you begin to hear the squealing coming from you brakes, it's time to get them checked out. if you continud driving on them for more than week or two, you will begin to damage the rotor itselfHow will I know when my brake pads need changing ?I am not sure, but I think that some garages, generally the commercial named ones will do a free check for you. Though, some may say they need changing even if they don't, so be careful. But, you can always call places such as Midas and other ones and ask if they do brake pads checks free of charge. It can't hurt to at least ask.How will I know when my brake pads need changing ?when u hear a squeaky noise on the break pads that means time to changeHow will I know when my brake pads need changing ?most times

you will hear a squeaking sound from the

front or rear wheels when you are rolling

even if you don't have your foot on the brakes

plus it will probably take you longer to stop than normal

and you will be putting more pressure on the brake pedal

    to do the same stop.

those are signs your pads are getting low

once past that you may not hear the squeak at all

then you will hear grinding sound when you press

    the brakes

by the time you hear that you are past the point

    of the pads being low

and are at the point of messing up your rotors

    and brake failure.

so get them looked at soon. How will I know when my brake pads need changing ?1 you will hear either a grinding noise when you apply the brakes or a high pitch noise when you are just riding at a slow speed this is called audible wear sensor it;s not electric just a small piece of metal that will scarape on the rotor when it hits a danger point before the pad wears downHow will I know when my brake pads need changing ?when you hit the brakes they make a loud squeaking noise that is the best time to get new brakes. How will I know when my brake pads need changing ?Kwik Fit or similar will do a free check for youHow will I know when my brake pads need changing ?You will feel that the brakes become less efficient. I want to apply Disk Brake Quiet, but I gather I have to remove the brake pads. I assume this means I have to remove the calipers. I am a novice. Anyone know how I do this?

ThanksHow Do I remove the front brake pads on a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX?It's pretty simple and no need to remove the caliper. After securing the front of the car up on stands and removing the wheel/tire, there is a sort of a clip that is over the top of the caliper. It's difficult to explain but I think you will see what I mean when you look. Anyway it's a flat wavy piece of metal and you have to unhook it from one end to remove it. Then there is a s,all metal bar that goes across the caliper through a small loop on the pads. Once that's removed, the pads just slide out. I realize it would be easier with visuals so maybe search around on NASIOC.com and you should find some step by step instructions. How Do I remove the front brake pads on a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX?i think it might be good for you to get a auto repair manuel as it has pics of how to do it as its hard to tell you in words how to do itHow Do I remove the front brake pads on a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX?Try autozone.com as they may have pictures if you can't find anything on nasioc.

How long does it take to change the front brake pads on a front wheel drive car?

    1 hour for both -

if the rotors need turned, add about 10-20 more minutes.

No big deal on most newer cars this is only 2 bolts and a clip. How long does it take to change the front brake pads on a front wheel drive car?it depends on the car, assuming you know a bit about it 1/2 to a full hour. In most cases it is fairly easy. How long does it take to change the front brake pads on a front wheel drive car?For the typical back yard mechanic like me, you've got extra time to jack up the wheels and put jack stands under the frame for safety. Then you need the right wrench to remove the caliper bolts which may require a breaker bar to get good leverage on the bolt in many cases. The front caliper pistons can be pushed in with a big C clamp, but rear calipers often need a special tool to turn the caliper back in with. Taking care to get the new pads into the caliper like the old pads you took out and remounting the caliper ends up taking about 3 hours for me and that doesn't count going to get the new pads or cleaning up the tools etc. Rear drum brakes would take longer even if you've done them before (about double the time for me). Of course you may need to take your rotors in to be machined or buy new rotors and install them in some cases.

Just check if you need any special tools ( Torx head sockets etc) before you start, as I didn't %26amp; had to get them after I started !! Allow about 2 hours per side to be sure. For the cost of new components it is a false economy to have the discs skimmed if you have to wait a couple of days for them to be done. Remove bolts from caliper and remove caliper, remove old pads. Get large channel lock type pliers or a %26quot;c%26quot; clamp and slowly squeeze piston back into caliper untill seated. Install new pads, reinstall caliper and bolts, repeat for other side. Dont forget to pump brakes a few times before driving to push pistons back into place. How in the hell do you replace brake pads in 2002 ford focus wagon?;)?First time, buy a Haynes manual for $15 from Auto Zone, and get the pads while you are there, use a large C-clamp on the caliper to push it in, the book will walk you through the entire process, with pictures. DON'T pry against the piston with a screw driver, that may damage it. The clamp will do the work, and the book is worth the investment. How in the hell do you replace brake pads in 2002 ford focus wagon?;)?Go to your local Ford dealer parts department, ask for part numbers 3S4Z-2001-AA (front brake pads), and 3S4Z-1125-AA (front brake rotors, if equipped with aluminum wheels) or YS4Z-1125-BA (front brake rotors, if equipped with 14%26quot; steel wheels). Remove the four wheel nuts (19mm) on each front wheel with the front of vehicle supported off the ground. Disconnect the steel retainer on each front outer brake pad, remove the two black plastic grommets on the back of each brake caliper. With your 7mm allen head socket, remove the two allen head caliper slides and the caliper will slide off with both of the pads in them. The rest of the instruction is as posted by the above poster. Installation is just the reverse of removal. Hope this helps. I have a 2001 Impala how hard is it to change the brake pads and rotors out?

I am a mechanically inclined person with not much auto experience. It just costs so much to have a shop put on new rotors and most of the time they hose you on the parts.I have a 2001 Impala how hard is it to change the brake pads and rotors out?Disc brake pads are easy. Once the caliper has been removed, the rotor should slip right off the studs, although there is probably a retaining clip you'll need to remove if they're never been off before. It would be worth your while to go to Autozone and pickup the Haynes manual for a 2001 Impala ($15-$16).I have a 2001 Impala how hard is it to change the brake pads and rotors out?changing the rotors and brake pads is pretty easy, you may have to remove some long bolts going through the caliper, or use a hammer and punch to drive out a bracket holding the caliper together. most have bolts holding the caliper together. but one thing to remember is when you push the piston back into the caliper, be sure to crack open the bleeder screw so that you do not force brake fluid back up through the abs(if it has abs) or up back in to the master cylinder which could flip the seal on it causing it to leak. also a good habit would be to use a c-clamp to push back the piston, but use one of the old brake pads against the piston so that it doesn't damage it. as for the rotors, they should just slip off, unless there is a retaining clip that u would have to remove, but it easily comes off in most cases.oh and be extremely sure to tighten the bleeder screw back up or else you will get air in your lines causing u to have a spongy brake pedal and causing you to have to bleed your brakes.just don't over tighten them. if the bleeder screw begins to strip, do not continue to unscrew it as it may snap. if it snaps or strips you may need a new caliper unfortunately. hope this helpsI have a 2001 Impala how hard is it to change the brake pads and rotors out?there are two bolts that hold the caliper on two the mounting bracket. I think they are 14mm. you'll probably have to retract the piston in the caliper to get the pads to clear the rust ridge on the rotor. Use a big C-clamp around the caliper and push on the back of the outboard pad. After you take off the caliper, you can use the c-clamp and the inboard pad to retract the piston all the way. There are two bolts that hold the caliper mounting bracket on to the knuckle. I forget the sizes of the bolts. Actually, I think that the caliper bolts may be 12mm and the mounting bracket bolts may be 14mm. You'll have to remove the bracket if you are replacing the rotors. But, unless you have a brake pulsation, excessive scoring or pitting, you shouldn't have to replace the rotors or have them resurfaced. In fact, gm doesn't recommend resurfacing the rotors for just replacing the pads. Only for the reasons I just mentioned. Overall, it's a pretty simple job. Quite self explanatory.

My rotors & brake pads need to be replaced. How long can I drive on them until it is completely unsafe?

I know that the obvious answer is going to be %26quot;as soon as possible%26quot; or %26quot;its already dangerous%26quot; or %26quot;it depends on how much damage has been done%26quot;. I'm really broke right now, so I'm looking for an actual answer. An hour? A day? A week? A month? My rotors %26amp; brake pads need to be replaced. How long can I drive on them until it is completely unsafe? If they still stop the car, and if you compensate for the reduced stopping ability, and keep in mind and be ready for a total brake failure ... it will not be completely unsafe until and unless you have total failure. No telling how long it will be until they fail completely. Of course, you could end up having to replace the calipers as well as the pads and rotors...

If you can adaquately compensate, very little is unsafe. My rotors %26amp; brake pads need to be replaced. How long can I drive on them until it is completely unsafe?about a couple of weeks, you might loose some braking. It's more the noise factor that will make you replace them. everytime you stop, it will be incredibly annoyingMy rotors %26amp; brake pads need to be replaced. How long can I drive on them until it is completely unsafe? No one, with any sense, would give you an answer to that. However when you wind up in the middle of someone's rear bumper you'll know for sure that you waited too long.My rotors %26amp; brake pads need to be replaced. How long can I drive on them until it is completely unsafe?Im on the same shoes

Aaarrrrhhh!!!My rotors %26amp; brake pads need to be replaced. How long can I drive on them until it is completely unsafe?I guess the answer is.....who told you that your brakes needed replacing?

How bad did they tell you they were?.

If an inspection station wouldn't pass the car because of it....then.....the next time you drive the car....head right for the repair shop and get new ones.

If you are %26quot;really broke%26quot;...as you say...then....either borrow the money for the brakes....or get a ride from someone.

Putting off the inevitable is only going to get you or someone else killed....yeah....KILLED!!........ don't take the risk!!....get the brakes changed. My rotors %26amp; brake pads need to be replaced. How long can I drive on them until it is completely unsafe?probably a year if ur happy to put up with the squeeling sound, it will just end up being metal on metal but the rear pads will have more on them so u will just have to depress the brake pedal harder to compensate for the loss of pad material on the front because the front always wear out before the back. dont stress nothing will happen just get it done when u have the cash
